Mark Walks LEJOG Day 46 – Bellshill to Kirkintilloch

Hullo. How are you? I hope you are having a good day. I’m Mark and I’m walking from Land’s End to John O’Groats…

Today’s walk started with an urban trek through Bellshill and Coatbridge before following the busy road to Glenboig, which, although noisy, gave some nice vantage points.

At Glenboig, i joined the lovely path that runs from there to Kirkintilloch along the course of a dismantled railway line, which I picked up at Garnqueen Loch.

The path runs north out of the village and was busy with dog walkers, cyclists and joggers.

Being an old railway, the walk was gentle and easy going. As I passed Moodiesburn, I achieved a nice little milestone of having completed two-thirds of my LEJOG walk. It’s a surreal feeling to have made it this far and I was quite chuffed.

The path continued through the cut and towards the bridge over the M80 motorway, shortly after which I left North Lanarkshire and entered East Dunbartonshire, adding another county to the list.

The afternoon passed peacefully, with only the occasional other walker along the route and I was soon heading under the railway into Kirkintilloch.

The little town was very busy with shoppers and the coffee shops appeared to be doing well. I found my way to the hotel, showered and went out to explore.

Fundraising for MacMillan Cancer Support

As I walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats, I am hoping to raise £10,000 for MacMillan Cancer Support, who do such a wonderful job of supporting families through the most difficult times. If you are able to spare any amount and would like to donate to MacMillan, please do so through my Just Giving Page.
